Spencer McManus, a recent graduate from Xavier High School in Middletown, was recently awarded the inaugural Michael Shanley Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, named for the late Lt. Michael “Mike” Shanley, a 29-year veteran of the Southington Police Department who died after a 22-month battle with a brain tumor. The scholarship, which will be presented to a graduating Southington resident that plans to study criminal justice in college, was awarded by Shanley’s family.
