Students at Urbin T. Kelley Elementary School have found a unique way to celebrate their fundraising success this year – by taping their principal to the wall.
The “Tape Mrs. Kahl to the Wall” event will wrap up the 29th successful season of raising funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Every year, Kelley participates in a Math-A-Thon, where students in grades K-5 are given a “Math-A-Thon Funbook”. Family and friends can then make a pledge or donation to St. Jude’s, for students to solve math problems in the book.
In 2015, Kelley ranked 48th in the country for fundraising, out of over 7,000 participating schools. This year, the school brought in more money than any previous year, raising $13, 627.
Since 1987, they have raised more than $200,000 for charity.
The celebration will take place on April 22 1 2p.m., when students will meet principal Marilyn Kahl in the school gymnasium with lots of duct tape.
